SPLASH is the YMCA drowning prevention program. Among unintentional injuries, drowning is the second leading cause of death to young children after motor vehicle accidents. Another 2,600 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms each year for near-drowning incidents. Some of these submersion accidents result in permanent brain damage. In partnership with local schools and daycares, The SPLASH program teaches approximately 275 Pre-K and second grade children water safety and swimming skills each year.
